Buying QuickBooks used to be simple: go to Intuit's website, pick an edition, pay. Since Intuit changed how it sells QuickBooks Desktop, the answer to "where can I purchase QuickBooks?" depends on which version you want. This guide covers every legitimate way to get QuickBooks in 2026 and what to check before you pay anyone.

First, Decide: QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop?

QuickBooks Online is a cloud subscription you use in a web browser. QuickBooks Desktop is software you install on a Windows PC (or, for older Mac editions, a Mac) and keep your company file on your own computer or server. Option 1: Buy Directly From Intuit

Intuit, the company that makes QuickBooks, sells QuickBooks Online plans, QuickBooks Solopreneur and QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise directly on quickbooks.intuit.com. This is the most straightforward route if one of those products fits you.

What you can't do any more is buy a brand-new QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus or Mac Plus subscription from Intuit in the US. Intuit stopped selling those to new customers on September 30, 2024. Existing subscribers can keep renewing, but first-time buyers are directed to QuickBooks Online or Enterprise instead.

Option 2: Authorized Resellers and Accountants

Intuit works with authorized resellers (Intuit Solution Providers) and with accountants in the ProAdvisor program, who can sell QuickBooks Enterprise and sometimes offer discounted QuickBooks Online pricing.
