For years Intuit sold QuickBooks Pro as a one-time purchase. In 2021 it renamed the product QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus and moved it to an annual subscription that includes upgrades, data backup and support. When people search for "QuickBooks Pro" today, they usually mean Pro Plus.

Pro Plus suits service businesses, retailers and small contractors who want their data on their own computer, don't need industry-specific reports and have three or fewer people doing the bookkeeping. If you need industry editions (contractor, manufacturing, nonprofit, retail) or sales forecasting, look at QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus. If you need more than five users or advanced inventory, look at Enterprise.

System Requirements

Pro Plus runs on 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11. It doesn't run natively on a Mac — Mac users need QuickBooks Mac Plus or QuickBooks Online.

Can You Still Buy QuickBooks Pro Plus?

Intuit stopped selling new Pro Plus subscriptions to US customers on September 30, 2024. Existing subscribers can keep renewing, and license keys are still available from independent resellers like our store. If you'd rather buy from Intuit, QuickBooks Online Essentials or Plus is the closest cloud equivalent.
