How Much Does QuickBooks Cost in 2026? Every Version Compared
QuickBooks pricing has changed several times in the last two years, and Intuit raised QuickBooks Online prices again in August 2026. Here is what each version costs as of October 2026, at full list price.
QuickBooks Online Pricing
- Simple Start — $38 per month, 1 user: invoicing, expenses, bank connections and basic reports
- Essentials — $85 per month, 3 users: adds bill management and time tracking
- Plus — $140 per month, 5 users: adds inventory tracking and project profitability
- Advanced — $340 per month, 25 users: adds advanced reporting, workflow automation and premium support
Intuit often discounts the first few months for new customers, so the price you see at signup may be lower than what you pay from month four onward. Always check the regular price before you commit.
QuickBooks Solopreneur Pricing
QuickBooks Solopreneur, the replacement for QuickBooks Self-Employed, has a limited free plan and a paid plan at $20 per month. It's built for freelancers and one-person businesses who mainly need to separate business expenses, track mileage and estimate quarterly taxes.
QuickBooks Desktop Pricing
QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise is the only Desktop edition Intuit still sells to new US customers. Its annual list prices for a single user are about $1,873 (Silver), $2,210 (Gold) and $2,717 (Platinum), and the price rises with every extra user. Gold and Platinum now also charge a monthly fee per employee you pay through payroll.
Pro Plus, Premier Plus and Mac Plus are no longer sold to new customers by Intuit. Existing subscribers renew at Intuit's renewal price, and independent resellers sell license keys at their own prices.
Costs People Forget to Budget For
- Payroll — a separate monthly subscription in both QuickBooks Online and Desktop
- Extra users beyond what your plan includes
- Payment processing fees when customers pay invoices by card or bank transfer
- Apps and integrations (e-commerce, inventory, time tracking) that charge their own fees
- Bookkeeper or accountant time if you don't do the books yourself
Which Option Is Cheapest?
For a freelancer, the Solopreneur plans are the cheapest. For a small team, compare a year of QuickBooks Online (Simple Start is $456 a year at list price) with the one-off cost of a Desktop license, and remember that Online lets you work from anywhere while Desktop keeps your data on your own computer. The right answer depends on how many people use it and which features you need, not just the sticker price.
